Renewable Energy Brokerage Services

Renewable energy brokerage services

TradeLink has established itself as an independent renewable energy broker.

Currently, we purchase to cover the needs of our renewable electricity supply business - LoCO2 Energy - but we also manage the sales from our diverse range of renewable generator clients. Where a client's output is greater than our own portfolio needs we undertake the identification and negotiation of sales contracts amongst our network of trading counterparties.

Power purchase agreements are structured to provide the client with income from power exported to the grid or direct to a local buyer. The contract will capture LEC and REGO sales as well. Where the client has taken support under the Renewables Obligation we trade their Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs) in a monthly ROC auction and we procure bilateral sales of ROCs to achieve the best available prices at the time.

Our portfolio of retained clients is testament to the fact that we consistently provide market-leading access to the power and renewable markets.

The Renewable Obligation (RO) is being replaced as the main government support mechanism for renewable installations of 5 MW and above from 1st April 2017 (1st April 2015 for PV) by the Feed-in Tariff with Contracts for Difference (FiT CfD) scheme. Developers must apply via the National Grid in a competitive allocation process in order to claim. TradeLink Solutions can advise on the application process and ongoing administrative requirements, having submitted applications to the National Grid in the very first allocation round in October 2014.

In order to encourage the development of renewable heat the government has brought in a support mechanism: the Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. In order to claim this incentive, the installation must go through an Ofgem accreditation process. However, this process can take several months to complete and could potentially affect the cash flow of your installation. Using the experience gained from completing over 400 successful accreditations under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT), Renewables Obligation (RO) and the RHI schemes over the past ten years, TradeLink Solutions can help by undertaking the accreditation on your behalf.

Renewable energy brokerage service fees

For those clients developing generation projects, along with conventional consultancy rates, we also offer a 'brokerage fee' approach. TradeLink can help the client reduce project development costs by deferring payment until the project is up and running.

Against reduced up-front fees, TradeLink can structure payments as a small percentage of the generator's income from power and renewable benefits and so this also helps reduce the time taken to administer payments.

Brokerage works particularly well where TradeLink has been retained to trade power and green benefits in the market place on behalf of the client.

If you wish to discuss the specifics of your project development and how the brokerage approach might apply then please call Diane Dowdell on 01923 713 840 or email us here.
